Dual Purpose Dogs

Dual Purpose Dogs

Every AMK9 dual purpose dog is thoroughly trained for either patrol and drug detection or patrol and explosives detection before becoming available for sale to law enforcement agencies. Acquiring a patrol dog that can do two jobs is a cost–effective move for smaller law enforcement departments with budget constraints.

A dual purpose dog training for drug detection

Patrol and Drug Detection Dogs

Each of these dual purpose dogs is a fully-trained working dog skilled in tracking; handler protection; off-leash obedience; article, area and building search; and criminal apprehension. In the drug detection aspect of their dual purpose training, we only make use of real drugs, not pseudo drug scents:  this is vital for when K9 officers are to testify their narcotics dog only responds on illegal substances.

AMK9 drug dogs are taught to detect marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines. When a dog locates drugs, it will signal the find with a passive alert.

When training drug dogs, we never allow them physical contact with the drugs; they are trained only to detect the scent of the drugs. Our goal is to always provide best-in-class K9 detection and security services through custom-tailored programs that fit the specific needs of our clients.

Patrol and Explosives Detection Dogs

Just like the dual-purpose dogs for drug detection, each of these dogs is a fully-trained working dog skilled in tracking; handler protection; off-leash obedience; article, area and building search; and criminal apprehension in addition to being bomb sniffing dogs.

Our bomb dogs are trained with real explosive materials not simulated scents. Each dog learns to detect the unique scent of different explosive materials. By the end of their training, a dog will be able to detect approximately 15 different combinations of explosive materials. Our canines are trained to detect trace samples or bulk samples of explosives.

The Benefits of a Dual-Purpose Patrol Dog

Acquiring, handling and maintaining multiple K9 patrol dogs can stretch the budget of smaller police departments and agencies. The investment of one or two highly skilled dual purpose dogs can ease the pain of manpower shortage; more especially in rural departments where law enforcement officers must work independently to cover large areas.
